Laredo Sector Border Patrol Agents Seize Over 740 Pounds of Marijuana

LAREDO, Texas – Laredo Sector Border Patrol Agents interdicted three narcotic smuggling attempts resulting in the seizure of over 740 pounds of marijuana in Laredo, Texas.

The first event took place on March 28, 2018, when Border Patrol agents seized 307.34 pounds of marijuana at the Border Patrol Checkpoint on Interstate Highway 35, north of Laredo, Texas. Agents encountered a white Ford F-250 at the primary inspection lane and referred the driver to secondary after a Border Patrol canine alerted to the presence of concealed humans and/or narcotics. A further search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 13 bundles of marijuana. The marijuana was estimated to have a value of $245,872.00. The driver, a United States Citizen, was arrested. The driver, narcotics and vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The second event occurred later that same day, when Border Patrol agents seized 224.5 pounds of marijuana after responding to suspicious activity, south of Laredo, Texas. Agents were able to recover three bundles of marijuana. The marijuana had an estimated value of $179,600.00. No arrests were made in this case. The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The third event occurred on March 29, 2018, when Border Patrol agents seized 217 pounds of marijuana after responding to suspicious activity in Laredo, Texas. Agents were able to recover three bundles of marijuana inside a white Chevrolet Silverado truck, abandoned after the driver bailed-out when Border Patrol attempted a vehicle stop. The marijuana had an estimated value of $173,600.00. No arrests were made in this case. The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the vehicle was seized by Border Patrol.
