More than 330,000 items of PPE delivered across city

Published: Thursday, 14th May 2020

More than 330,000 items of personal protective equipment (PPE) have been distributed to care settings across Birmingham by the city council.

The deliveries are emergency supplies for care providers whose stock is running low, with 338,673 items delivered so far.

These include 131,176 pairs of gloves, 109,150 face masks and 80,246 aprons, plus goggles, sanitiser and coveralls, with 330 separate deliveries to a range of settings.

Cllr Paulette Hamilton, cabinet member for health and social care, said: “I want to again thank all care providers and staff who are doing such a great job in really difficult circumstances, and council staff who are sourcing and distributing PPE. While care providers need to make use of their regular wholesale suppliers, we have been providing these emergency supplies to those running low.

“Having helped out with deliveries this week I have seen for myself the work that goes into this and what a tremendous job everyone is doing.”
