Birmingham looks ahead to Black History Month
A call is going out for submissions to be included in Birmingham’s celebration of Black History Month, which will be officially launched in September.
Birmingham City Council has commissioned Blackstory Partnership to deliver the annual programme of activities, exhibitions and events across the city for the next three years until 2022.
Organisations and individuals planning any activities, exhibitions or events for Black History Month in October, are being urged to submit details for this year’s programme by Monday 10 August.
Due to the ongoing impact of Covid-19, this year’s launch event on 26 September will be digital but it will still feature inspiring speakers and creative performances, with many drawing on their and the wider community’s experience of the pandemic.
Birmingham’s Black heritage and its citizens’ own stories will also raise awareness of the challenges and the perceptions that have restricted their access to opportunities, progress and participation in our society.
Details of events, activities and exhibitions planned for Black History Month, can be submitted by completing the form on Birmingham Black History Month website -www.birminghamblackhistorymonth.co.uk – by Monday 10 August.
The official Birmingham Black History Month 2020 Brochure will be available on the website from 25 September.
Details of the digital launch event will be announced in due course.
