THE TIMELESS ART OF REPAIR...AT LOCUST LAWN

  • Locust Lawn 436 New York 32 New Paltz, NY 12561 United States (map)

Historic Locust Lawn House and Farm invites the public and antiques buffs to a distinctive “themed” Repair Café on Sunday April 28th, between the hours of 11:00AM and 3:00PM.

The event is called “The Timeless Art of Repair…” See how things were repaired in the past. Bring an item to be repaired today.

Come to the cozy, historic Hasbrouck House at Locust Lawn--halfway between New Paltz & Gardiner. Furniture & wood repairs, lamps, and expert hand sewing. Warm home-baked biscuits and free coffee and tea as well. This is a free event! Bring the kids!

For our great-grandparents, repairing was a necessity of life. But the techniques employed and materials used were very different from today.

The public is also invited to bring modern-day items to be repaired as well, as with any Repair Café event. Present-day repairs will be carried out by several of our New Paltz and Gardiner repair coaches—not necessarily in period dress!

This special event is organized by Dawn Elliott, the site manager of Locust lawn and the recipient of this year’s Martha Washington History Award. Dawn has also been a “repairer” at the New Paltz Repair Cafes from the start, practicing the “lost” skills of darning & other textile handiwork.
