Chinsegut Conservation Center

Starting Monday, March 11th, construction will be taking place near the conservation center as our paved walkways with shell in them are being replaced to improve visitors' experience. Please use caution around these areas, observing signage and avoiding roped or taped off areas as they occur. The construction is set to take place in phases starting with the paved trail behind the center known as the Butterfly Trail and is scheduled to last 4-6 weeks. Currently we do not plan to cancel any programs or close the center during that time, but we will notify the public if those plans change. Thank you!

Chinsegut Conservation Center and the associated parking area off of Lake Lindsey Road are open to the public Fridays and Saturdays from 8am to 2pm.

Located six miles north of Brooksville, the Chinsegut Conservation Center is an environmental education facility managed by FWC that offers outdoor skills and conservation education programs to the public. Fun educational programs connect visitors with biologists and wildlife experts to explore and become familiar with Florida’s unique and sensitive natural areas. Outdoor skills programs such as archery, wildlife signs and compass navigation are offered seasonally as weather permits.

The center is located on the Chinsegut Wildlife and Environmental Area, which is home to many wildlife species that can be observed throughout the year. Catch a glimpse of gopher tortoises, white-tailed deer, bobcats, sandhill cranes or turkeys from the hiking trails or at May’s Prairie.

Visit the Chinsegut WEA history page to learn how the area is linked to one of Brooksville’s notable early residents. The Conservation Center is the only educational facility operated by the Commission's Public Access Services Office.
