The Homegrown Minneapolis Food Council invites you to attend our Open House next week. Please join the Food Council in celebrating another year of growing, processing, distributing, eating and composting healthy, sustainable and locally grown food. Our event will include an exciting program and delicious refreshments. More than 30 local organizations will provide local food information and resources. We will also provide information on the City’s garden lease program and invite you to share your food system priorities for 2016!

Our can't-miss event will feature:

  • Welcome remarks from Minneapolis City Council Member Blong Yang
  • Remarks about local food efforts from Minnesota Department of Agriculture Commissioner Dave Frederickson
  • Introduction of the 2016-17 Food Council and recognition of outgoing members
  • Presentation from Bertrand Weber and Andrea Northup and taste tests from MPS students, demonstrating how MPS is sourcing local food from small, sustainable farmers in the region for 24,000 school lunches each day and engaging students in the process
  • Highlights from the past year of local food system progress and presentation of 2015 "Homegrown Heroes" Awards
  • Informational tables for a range of interests with gardening and healthy eating resources, beekeeping, small business loans and technical assistance geared toward food businesses, community food system priorities activity and more
  • Delicious light refreshments incorporating local food and inspired by the Minneapolis Public Schools Culinary & Nutrition team and True Food Chef Council. Many thanks to Minneapolis Public Schools and their Culinary & Nutrition Services and Farm to School team for hosting our collaborative community event.
