EU climate law


MEPs will debate. from 15.00 to 17.00, the EU climate law including a more ambitious 2030 emissions reduction target. The climate law aims to transform political promises that the EU will become climate-neutral by 2050 into a binding obligation, to give European citizens and businesses the legal certainty and predictability they need to plan ahead. The vote will take place on Wednesday and the result will be announced on Thursday morning. A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday at 10.00.

Special EU summit


MEPs will comment on the results of the special European Council meeting, in particular on escalating tensions between Turkey and its EU neighbours, on relations with China and on the situation in Belarus, in a debate with Council President Charles Michel and Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič. During the debate from 9.15, MEPs will also look ahead and give their input regarding the next regular EU summit, to be held 15-16 October.

In brief


European Forest Strategy. Later in the morning, MEPs will debate the future EU Forest Strategy and ways to support high-quality forest management, reinforce disaster resilience and promote sustainable forestry. A resolution will be put to the vote on Wednesday (result to be announced Thursday morning).

Votes

The first voting session starts at 10.30 and lasts until 11.45; results will be announced at 14.15.


MEPs will vote on amendments on


  • the Establishment of an EU Mechanism on Democracy, the Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights (final vote and result Wednesday at 14.15),

  • the implementation of the common commercial policy – annual report 2018 (final vote and result on Wednesday at 14.15).



The second voting session lasts from 17.45 until 19.00; results will be announced on Wednesday morning at 9.00.

MEPs will vote, among other things, on amendments to


  • the European Climate Law (final vote Wednesday, result to be announced Thursday morning at 8.30),

  • the European Forest Strategy (final vote Wednesday, result to be announced Thursday morning at 8.30).
