EP President David Sassoli will open the 23-26 November remote plenary session at 17.00.

Sustainable consumer policy

Immediately after the opening, MEPs and the Commission are set to discuss EU plans on consumer policy until 2025 (New Consumer Agenda), including the role of consumers in the green and digital transitions. MEPs are likely to also address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on consumers and consumer rights.

Media freedom and pluralism


In the evening, MEPs will address the increasing pressure and harassment that journalists face in a debate focussing on political interference, the protection of journalists, threats such as the proliferation of hate speech and disinformation, as well as the role of internet platforms. A resolution will be put to the vote on Wednesday.

In brief


A new industrial strategy. Parliament will discuss how to adapt the EU’s industrial policy to help businesses cope with the crisis and face the digital and environmental transitions, prior to a vote on Wednesday.


COVID-19 and foreign affairs. The impact of the pandemic on EU foreign policy will also be discussed in the evening, before a vote on a resolution on Wednesday.



Votes


Voting will take place between 18.30 and 19.45; the results will be announced on Tuesday morning at 8.30.


MEPs will vote, among other things, on:


  • distributing EU solidarity funds to help Croatia, Poland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Portugal and Spain,
  • a call for a swift return to a fully functional Schengen area,
  • a resolution on how to reduce homelessness in the EU, and
  • the nomination of Frank Elderson as a new member of the ECB executive board.
