Motion for a European Parliament resolution on a requirement, in the articles of association of listed EU companies and in state-owned undertakings, to ensure gender balance and equal treatment in administrative and supervisory bodies
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 143 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas listed companies and state-owned undertakings should be encouraged to have more women in management positions, implementing the principles of gender balance and equality;
B. whereas, in the absence of any specific legislation on the matter, this does not appear to be happening; whereas, moreover, many national systems, based on voluntary commitments to achieve gender equality, have failed to establish a gender balance in such companies;
C. whereas the gender pay gap is unlawful and amoral; whereas equal pay for equal work must instead be achieved;
D. whereas in listed companies and state-owned undertakings women are more likely to be recruited in less important and lower paid positions; whereas this state of affairs perpetuates a situation of inequality;
1. Calls on the Council and Parliament to draw up a regulation which provides for a requirement, in the articles of association of listed EU companies and in state-owned undertakings, to ensure gender balance and equal treatment in administrative and supervisory bodies.
