MOTION FOR A RESOLUTION on better identifying and cracking down on child pornography

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on better identifying and cracking down on child pornography

The European Parliament,

 having regard to Article 83(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union,

 having regard to Rule 143 of its Rules of Procedure,

A. whereas each year 165 000 children are reportedly victims of sexual violence in France; whereas, however, these figures are based on estimates from an unofficial source and are, in any case, are not harmonised at EU level;

B. whereas products – intellectual works or sexual items – reproducing the image or likeness of minors in a pornographic context are currently being made available to the public; whereas organisations and parties promoting paedophile tendencies have reappeared or never ceased to exist, thus necessitating a review of the laws against them;

1. Strongly condemn the promotion of paedophilia and instruct Member States to prosecute those guilty of it;

2. Are very worried by sexually explicit productions and content reproducing the likeness, and not the image, of minors, and call upon Member States to ban the sale thereof, whether online or over the counter;

3. Urge Member States to adopt common approaches to and definitions for recording sexual assaults on minors, and to produce accurate statistics on this phenomenon on a regular basis.
