Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the digital transformation of school education
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 143 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas the health emergency caused by the spread of COVID-19 throughout Europe is forcing the Member States to restrict freedom of movement and impose lifestyle changes in order to protect public health;
B. whereas the current state of emergency makes traditional classroom-based teaching impossible, and so calls for innovative solutions involving a digital transformation of the education sector;
C. whereas, therefore, schools from across the spectrum need easy access to technology, so as to be able to guarantee the continuity of teaching by offering remote classes;
D. whereas the Commission has drawn up a Digital Education Action Plan;
1. Urges the Commission to encourage the Member States to adopt good practices in the use of digital technology for educational purposes;
2. Calls on the Commission to help the Member States train teachers so that they develop the skills required to use the educational tools and resources appropriate to a digital teaching environment.
