MOTION FOR A RESOLUTION on setting up job coaching and training programmes for workers facing redundancy as a result of the economic crisis

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on setting up job coaching and training programmes for workers facing redundancy as a result of the economic crisis

The European Parliament,

 having regard to Rule 143 of its Rules of Procedure,

A. whereas the Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) includes specific measures to ensure that young people up to the age of 25 are offered a job, an apprenticeship or a traineeship within four months of leaving education or becoming unemployed;

B. whereas the European Social Fund will be the main financial instrument strengthening Europe’s social dimension;

C. whereas the European Council’s 2008 resolution recommends that the EU Member States ensure that everyone is able to benefit from lifelong guidance on developing essential career management skills;

D. whereas the economic crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic has hit small and medium-sized enterprises particularly hard, and this, inevitably, has implications for employment;

1. Calls on the Commission to support and promote job coaching and vocational training programmes to enable workers facing redundancy as a result of the economic crisis to develop new vocational skills so that they can find a new job quickly.
