To earn the trust of Texans everyday by providing innovative regulatory solutions for our licensees and those they serve
About us
TDLR is the primary state agency responsible for licensing and regulating a broad range of occupations, businesses, facilities and equipment in Texas. Since 1909, we have helped small businesses and consumers by protecting the health and safety of all Texans and ensuring they are served by qualified professionals. Chapter 51 of the Texas Occupations Code establishes TDLR and sets the framework for the agency’s responsibilities. The Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation is TDLR’s governing board and policy-making body, made up of seven public members appointed by the Governor with the consent of the Texas Senate. By law, no commissioner may have any business interests in a profession regulated by TDLR. The agency and Commission work in partnership with 31 advisory boards composed of dedicated public servants. Board members represent the citizens of Texas and the industries and professions regulated by TDLR. TDLR is currently responsible for 39 occupational and business licensing programs. See the complete list at www.tdlr.texas.gov.

TDLR has issued a 6-month emergency closure order effective May 30, 2024, for Hsin Wei Chen & Foot Reflexology Star in Houston for suspected human trafficking. This is the first emergency closure ordered by TDLR under authority granted by the 88th Texas Legislature. The law allows TDLR’s executive director to issue an emergency order halting the operation of any massage establishment if law enforcement or TDLR believes human trafficking is occurring at the establishment. Water over the road? Turn Around, Don't Drown! Water may be hiding dangers such as debris, tree branches, power lines, or damage to the road. Did you know? Just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most cars & just 2 feet of rushing water can carry away SUVs and trucks! (TDLR regulates driver education & safety training)
