The Opportunity

As a Pharmacist Investigator you'll directly contribute to the mission of the organization to protect public health and safety by inspecting pharmaceutical firms, conducting investigations of alleged violations of law and rule by health professionals, and providing technical assistance and pharmacy clinical expertise to licensees. 

You'll use specialized knowledge to assess the licensees' compliance with complex laws and rules. You'll also provide pharmacy clinical expertise to the Department, law enforcement agencies, and other state and federal agencies.

What will you be doing? – Duties include:

• Applying pharmacy clinical skills to conduct routine and complex inspections and compliance reviews of firms licensed by the department.

• Identifying and assessing standards of practice and confirm compliance with law and rule.

• Providing suggestions for practice improvement and law compliance; identifying trends and changes in pharmacy practice that may require department and/or commission action.

• Independently performing comprehensive practice and/or compliance reviews using pharmacy clinical skills.

• Conducting investigations of alleged drug law and pharmacy practice violations administered by the Department of Health and the Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission.

• Providing expert consultation regarding pharmacy practice, drug law, appropriate acquisition and distribution of drugs and healthcare-related best practice.

• Providing technical assistance to internal and external customers and stakeholders relating to pharmacy practice and pharmaceuticals.

• Providing pharmacy and drug-related educational presentations.


What we're looking for – Required Qualifications

• An active license to practice pharmacy in Washington State.

• Three (3) or more years of experience as a pharmacist.

• A Pharmacy Preceptor credential OR able to obtain one within 3 months of hire.

Preferred/Desired Qualification(s) 

• Experience in the practice of hospital, retail or long term care Pharmacy.

• Experience conducting investigations.

• Knowledge of state requirements (rules & regulations) for regulated facilities/entities.

• Travel 3 or more days a week (up to 300 miles in a day) and stay overnight when work schedule demands.

• Work in a fast-paced/stressful environment with multiple priorities and competing deadlines. 
• Move object weighing up to 30 pounds.
• Interact and work with customers, some of whom may be frustrated or distressed in a positive, friendly and supportive manner that meets the needs and standards of the office and the agency. 
• Maintain confidentiality regarding information accessed or discussed while performing the duties of the position.

This is a position covered by a bargaining unit for which the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) is the exclusive representative.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
