The Opportunity
 
As the Supervisory Investigator (HCI 4) you will support the Department of Health's mission to protect and improve the health of people in the State of Washington by providing professional and technical expertise in the delivery of quality investigative services in support of the licensing and discipline of health care professionals and other entities. 
 
You will serve as a supervisor for complaints against health care professionals and the inspection of assigned regulated facilities.  In this position you'll also leadership, guidance, direction, and instruction to lower level investigators, assign, review, and evaluate work product. You will also be required to investigate as a senior investigator on cases having extreme sensitivity due to high profile nature of issues and/or persons involved, possible political impacts, and/or elevated media interest. 
  
This is a full-time permanent Health Care Investigator 4 (HCI 4) position.

What will you be doing? – Duties include
 
  • Supervising a team of professional investigators.
  • Monitoring casework to ensure investigations and reports are completed in a timely and thorough manner and are prepared in the designated format.
  • Assisting in the preparation of and reviewing of investigative subpoenas that are being used by investigative staff for standard format, content and legal sufficiency.
  • Measuring core business functions against goals using quality improvement and performance management principles and reporting statistical information.
  • Serving as a mentor to staff for their professional development as health care investigators.
  • Participating in weekly case management teams as well as expedited case management teams.
  • Investigating complaints, including high priority cases, related to health care professionals subject to Title 18.130 RCW, the Uniform Disciplinary Act (UDA) and the Medical Marijuana Program.
  • During a public health emergency, will assist with emergency response activities.

Required Qualification
 
  • Option 1:  Two (2) or more years (full-time equivalency) of experience as a Health Care Investigator 3 within state service.
OR
 
  • Option 2:  Ten (10) or more years (full-time equivalency) of experience as an investigator with a criminal justice agency or a directly allied field, which must include six (6) years of field experience preparing evidence and interviewing witnesses, respondents or suspects; AND three (3) or more years (full-time equivalency) of experience leading or supervising the work of others
 OR
 
  • Option 3:  A Bachelor's degree or higher; AND six (6) or more years (full-time equivalency) of experience as an investigator with a criminal justice agency or a directly allied field, which must include four (4) years of field experience preparing evidence and interviewing witnesses, respondents or suspects; AND two (2) or more years (full-time equivalency) of experience leading or supervising the work of others
AND 
 
  • Demonstrated experience in the following:
    • Using word processing software, such as MS Word to create, format, edit, preview, print, and save documents; use standard functions to select, edit, copy, paste, format, and spell check text; create bulleted and numbered lists, indent and align paragraphs, and use bordering and shading features.
    • Accurately entering data into database software or web-based database applications.
    • Effectively communicating orally and in-writing with diverse audiences which includes experience writing a narrative summary report.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us.
