The Opportunity

As a designated agency expert on chemical dependency you'll support the department's mission to protect and improve the health of the people of Washington State.  On behalf of the disciplinary authorities identified in the Uniform Disciplinary Act you'll specialize in the process of monitoring health care professionals who may be impaired by substance abuse.

In this position you'll be providing professional and thorough development and oversight of monitoring contracts, that includes, but is not limited to, identifying, assessing and monitoring health professionals; referrals to appropriate community resources for treatment and other needs; education and outreach services to the health care community and other stakeholders on chemical dependency, appropriate interventions, and facilitation of early entry into treatment and monitoring.

You'll also focus on:
 
• Protecting the public from impaired practice.
• Assisting the health professional to achieve and remain in recovery.
• Monitoring the health professional's program participation.
• Providing consultation and support of Boards/Commissions and other stakeholders chemical dependency issues.

What will you be doing? – Duties include:

• Providing expertise and consultation in areas related to identification, monitoring and recovery of health professionals whose practice may be impacted due to substance use disorders.

• Developing and managing monitoring contracts using knowledge and clinical skills related to chemical dependency treatment and recovery, related services, and regulation.

• Serving as a consultant to assist in evaluation of health professional's ability to safely return to practice.

• Using clinical skills and judgment to intervene in the event of non-compliance or relapse to include removing the professional from practice, adjusting the health professionals contract to add time, increase testing, etc., and referring the health professionals to their licensing body for further action.

• Coordinating with department programs, outside agencies and organizations, and other stakeholders in regards to the substance abuse monitoring program and management of program clients.

What we're looking for – Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree or higher in a health related field; AND three or more (3) years of professional or consultative experience within a health services program.

• Current Washington state licensure as a chemical dependency professional, mental health professional, social worker, or a related profession.

• Experience using case management software systems such as AOS to enter, navigate, maintain, monitor, update and research information.

Preferred/Desired Qualification(s) 

• A Master's degree in a health related field.

• Experience in the fields of criminal justice or law enforcement working with people with substance use disorder.

Conditions of Employment/Working Conditions

• Work Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to meet business and customer service needs. A flexible work schedule will be considered at the incumbent's request, subject to supervisory approval.
• Occasionally work in excess of 40 hours per week and/or to adjust normally scheduled hours, which may include evening and weekends.
• Occasionally travel within/outside the state which may include overnight stays.
• Legally operate a state or privately owned vehicle or provide alternative transportation.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding information accessed or discussed while performing the duties of the position.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
