In response to health concerns regarding military service members and their families, DoD recently completed the pilot phase of the Healthy Base Initiative (HBI), a demonstration project to examine select military installations’ efforts to support improved nutritional choices, increased physical activity, obesity reduction and decreased tobacco use.

Laboratory Airmen ensure healthy force

The 97th Medical Support Squadron Laboratory conducts specific test which can help decide if Airmen are healthy for day to day operations and ready to deploy. “In order for you to deploy you have to be healthy and fit. The doctors don’t know what is going on with you until we give them the lab results so part of your pre-deployment is to get your tests done,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Kristi Jordan, 97th MDSS NCO in charge of laboratory service.
