Improve staff competencies by hosting a training through The Institute. The Institute offers free on-demand workshops both virtually and in-person to youth development professionals serving District of Columbia youth. Join The Institute Tuesday, June 27 · 9:30am - 3:30pm for a workshop covering the foundations of restorative philosophy and delve into key restorative practices, including community building circles, affective statements, restorative questions, and small impromptu conferences. Introduction to Positive Youth Development

Positive Youth Development (PYD) is an evidence-based approach that guides communities and organizations in the way that they provide skills, opportunities, and support for adolescents to be engaged and reach their full potential. This training ,taking place on Tuesday May 30, 2023 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm, focuses on guiding adults on how to empower youth to transition into adulthood successfully. Employing Youth in Afterschool

This Virtual Visit taking place on Monday June 5, 2023 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm EST will feature a meeting with Rebecca Fabiano, Founder and ED of FAB Youth Philly and it will focus on employing youth and offering workforce development opportunities in afterschool. Rebecca will detail their multi-prong approach including work permits for teens, Play Captain Initiative, Safety Captain Initiative, Little Library Stewards, Youth Advisory Board and Lifeguard Certification Training. She will also share their efforts to promote financial literacy.

Let's Talk About It: Coming Together for Youth Mental Health

At this in-person, free training session taking place in DC on Tuesday June 6 from 10:00am to 3:00pm, participants will collectively reimagine ways to prioritize the emotional and mental well-being of the communities we support, especially young people from historically and systematically marginalized communities. We'll explore practices that center self-care and community care across group settings, 1:1 advising sessions, and as stand-alone resources. Register here.

FY24 OST RFA NOW OPEN

RFA Release Date: May 17, 2023

Applications Due Date: June 14, 2023, by 5:00 pm EST

The FY24 Out of School Time RFA invites high-performing, fiscally responsible, nonprofits that focus on child and youth development and serve school aged children and youth with OST programs to apply. Organizations applying must serve children and youth with a positive development approach. Grant funds may only be used to serve children and youth who reside within the District of Columbia. Welcoming Newest OST Team Member: Olayide Ibironke, Data Analyst

Helo! My name is Olayide Ibironke, I am the Data Analyst with the OST, I grew up in Africa and moved to Queens, NY before making my way to D.C, I love the city and it has always been between D.C and Maryland for me and my family. I have always loved associating with the youth,  I enjoy a good sporting/musical relationship with the youth back in Queens, NY and also in Lagos, Nigeria. Youth development is very personal to me, I look forward to bringing my experience to the OST office, I already feel very welcomed and I believe things will only get better from here. I am excited to be here and commend everyone working at the OST for their efforts put in every work day.

Free Summer Meals for Youth

DC Free Summer Meal Program

DCPS Food & Nutrition Services is offering free meals to Community Based Organizations who are hosting an OST program at DCPS schools this summer. In order to receive free meals, you need you to complete an online form. Once you have submitted information, someone from the FNS team will reach out to confirm additional details if needed. If you have questions, contact food.dcps@k12.dc.gov or Robyn Douglas Scholar at Robyn.Douglas@k12.dc.gov

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)

SFSP reimburses program operators who serve no-cost healthy meals and snacks to youth age 18 and younger in low-income areas during summer months. If you are interested in becoming a sponsoring organization and running a SFSP program, learn more here

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education invites DC educators to a virtual webinar led by Andrew Katz-Moses, a former DC educator and now Certified Financial Planner, to learn about the opportunities available for student loan forgiveness. The webinar will equip educators with the steps and tools to take advantage of the current temporary Income-Driven Repayment waiver. These recent changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program have resulted in billions of dollars in loan forgiveness – join us for this discussion to make sure you can can take advantage of this opportunity to get your loans forgiven before the waiver expires at the end of 2023.

The One World Academy's Afterschool Program is an accelerated learning program led by educators who directly teach students in DC to improve their research, writing, and presentation skills on social justice issues that they are specifically passionate about. The fall Academy prepares high school students for the transition to writing in college. The spring Academy prepares middle school students for the transition to writing in high school.

We are in budget season for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24)! If you support the OST investments preservation, expanded investments in our children, youth, and families, and the OST FY24 budget (inclusive of My Afterschool DC), and if you want to ensure that your voices are heard, we encourage you to engage with members of the DC Council now, up until the final vote on the budget on 5/30.

Cafritz Foundation Grants 

The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation looks to support work that improves the lives of DC-area residents, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable and underserved individuals. We encourage organizations that provide comprehensive services and work towards systemic change, which addresses all levels of, and all who are affected by, the issue. The goal is that all in the region become self-sufficient and lead healthy, fulfilling lives. We search for nonprofits that also employ effective partnering and show cultural competence in engaging effectively with communities and people of various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. On occasion, the Foundation invests directly in strengthening the nonprofit sector by helping current grantees to build organizational capacity and by supporting advocacy and other efforts.

Women's Sport Foundation: Move Together Grants

Move Together, is a Power of She Fund grant, supporting organizations that foster multigenerational connection in their communities through sport, fitness and movement-based programming for girls and women.

Cure for the Streets or Workplace Rights Grants

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) of the District of Columbia (District) is seeking proposals from non-profit Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) interested in operating the FY24 Cure the Streets or Workplace Rights grant programs. These are separate grant programs, each requiring a separate application. Cure the Streets Grant Program Guidelines FY24 OAG will make up to $750,000 available in grant funding for Fiscal Year 2024 to be awarded through the Workplace Rights grant program. OAG will award funds to at least two qualified community-based organizations. No award shall be less than $100,00 per year per grant. Funding is allocated annually, and subject to appropriation and funds’ availability.

Wallace Foundation: Opportunity to Advance Cross-Sector Partnerships for Adolescents

Wallace is seeking expressions of interest from groups of organizations that are working together to promote youth development, are seeking financial support to strengthen their work and can help us determine new directions for our Learning and Enrichment programs. They seek not individual organizations, but groups of organizations working together in formal or informal partnerships to support adolescent youth development.

Predicted deadline: Nov 4, 2023 (Letter of inquiry)

Grant amount: Approximately $200,000

Many Hands Grants

Many Hands provides unrestricted funding (which may be used for operating, program, or capital expenses) to well managed and financially viable local organizations that operate effective programs and services. Successful applicants will be able to describe how a Many Hands grant will have an impact on organizational and/or programmatic capacity that leads to an increased ability to help the intended beneficiaries. The Education Committee seeks to fund organizations that work to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for children and families in  areas, including academic support and enrichment (tutoring, mentoring, arts, and after-school or out-of-school time programs).

Predicted deadline: Nov 18, 2023 (Full proposal)

Grant amount: Up to $100,000
