What to Know!

Why is there so much construction going on along the backroads of Maine rural communities?  Broadband is coming to Maine to expand digital literacy services to traditionally rural and underserved populations and provide job training/employment-related education throughout the State of Maine. Broadband will change Maine, with access to broadband people can further their education, utilize telehealth, engage in remote work, and connect with anyone with internet access around the world.

A majority of Maine Residents use online services to find information, stay connected, look for employment, and for many other things.  Most know about 211 Maine,  but there is a new three digit help line for people in crisis (711) that you should know; the national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, Veterans Press 1.

CareerCenters provide information on employer requirements in the event of a layoff or closing. Workers are provided with information on retraining and support. e-mail us at rapidresponse.dol@maine.gov

Veterans Corner:

The 8th Annual Maine Hire-A-Vet Campaign for 2022 is underway. To help support this endeavor this section has been added to the newsletter. Events during the campaign are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Maine offers a free veteran's designation on their driver's licenses, you will want to make sure you get yours. Having your driver's license updated with your veteran status ensures you easily can get special veteran’s-only discounts & other benefits that are offered by private businesses as well as state & local governments.

Mental illness is a largely misunderstood disease that carries much stigma in society and in the workplace. Mental illness is a covered disability under the ADAAA and therefore is subject to the law of the ADAAA including the requirement to engage in an interactive process. The most common psychological disorders include major depression and dysthymia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, and an array of personality disorders.
